Borra caves
Borra caves are present at the Ananthagiri hills in araku valley in Vishakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh. The native name for the caves is Borra Guhalu. Where Borra means hole in Odia language and guhalu means caves in Telugu language.
These caves have the highest elevation 2313 ft (705m). These are naturally built and worth seeing natural art. Everything inside these caves is the creativity of water with the Limestone rocks.
The history behind the Caves
The history of the borra caves is the oldest itself as the history of Araku Valley. These caves are formed by the Perennial flow of water on the limestone rocks over the million of years. The pressure was exerted by humic acid on mineral deposits which gave different kinds of shapes to the structure of these borra caves. While the credit to find these beautiful caves goes to the British Geologist William king in the year 1807. But the locals have a different story to tell. They said that once a cowherd lost his cow while grazing. Then soon he realized that his cow is fallen inside a hole-like structure. He walks down in this 60ft hole and saw his cow grazing on the ground. This was the very first time according to the tribals when they found these caves.
These caves are formed by a process of millions of years and spread over a large surface area.
Interior Of Borra Caves
The opening of Borra Caves found 100 m in the horizontal direction and about 75m in the vertical direction. The interior of the caves is mainly made up of Stalagmite and Stalactite. As these formations are naturally built the visitors give them names accordingly like Shiva Parvati, Mother-Child, crocodile, Human brain, etc. Some more interesting structure inside the saves are found mushroom formation, Temple , Church, and many more.
The caves glitter and lightened by the 63 Lamps of Mercury. Halogen vapours and halogen vapours. which will provide you with a mesmerising view of these beautiful caves.
These caves are connected to the faith of peoples as the structures found inside the caves like ‘Shivalingam‘ and kamdhenu cow. Hence this place has a religious value.
Entry Fee For the Visit
when you came to the entrance you will find a ticket counter along with the rate list according to age groups. Although It costs 25 INR for adults and 10 INR for children’s. But If you are interested in videography or photography you have to pay extra charges.
For Childrens -10 INR
For Adults- 25 INR
Photography or Videography – 100 INR
Timing for Visit
You can visit between 10 am to 5 Pm Daily hours. Remember if you visit must taste the Bamboo chicken which is a speciallity of there.
Besides this when you visit here must take a leisure walk through the mountains around it. It is very rich in flora and fauna. You can also talk with locals which can give you information about your trip besides the google can. Araku valley lies about a distance of 15km from these caves.
